Greetings,

My name is Vincent Adams, and I welcome you to my Tutoring blog.

The purpose of this blog is to provide contact information and a descriptions of services I offer. For details, please visit this page.

However, as this site grows, will also provide links to helpful resources and materials you can use to help you improve your English language skills. For the last five years, I have been teaching at an Intensive English Program, working with pre-collegiate international students. But while I primarily cater to that group, I am eager and equipped to work with anyone if the goal is to communicate well using the English language.

Below I describe my experience and philosophies in order to provide a complete picture for what I do and how I can help.

If you are interested in tutoring services or have questions, please contact me at vincent.adams.esl@gmail.com. I offer remote services (internet-based tutoring for anyone in the world) and face-to-face for residents of Denver, Colorado.

Experience

My teaching started as a tutor at the Writing Center at Colorado State University, and after that I won a highly-competitive teaching fellowship (GTA) and taught composition courses for two years as a graduate student.

After graduating, I taught at Polaris Expeditionary Learning School as a high school English teacher. This school was perhaps my favorite place o teach because it focuses on learner-centered experiential learning. This means that we learn by doing things instead of a narrowed focus on studying and memorizing and testing. A big part of what we did was take field trips -- which lasted weeks and involved camping.

Funding at schools like Polaris is a challenge, so after a year there I was looking for new work, and I ended up at East Middle School teaching 7th grade literacy. I taught on the ELA (English Language Acquisition) team and taught immigrant students with limited to fragmented skills in both English and Spanish.

I returned to college teaching, and returned home to Arapahoe Community College as an instructor. I was once a student at that school, and I came back and worked with a diverse group of students, ranging from all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. While there I also returned to my roots as a writing tutor.

After this experience I entered a new chapter. A great friend of mine in grad school taught at the English Language Center at the University of Denver and
